TICA
introduced several spinning reel models in 2000. One of which is the
LIBRA SA Series. This is a high-performance, high-quality spinning reel. Computer
designed balanced rotor to reduce vibration, the reel featrues twist reduction-designed
line roller, and a one-touch rolding handle. Other features of the reel include
Forged aluminum allow spool, titanium alloy parts, hadwood handle, coiled tension
bail spring, worm shaft, and instant anti-reverse device.
Enough features to make you want to go out and buy one? How about one more-- 10 ball bearing! But hold on, there's more good news. The reel sells well below $100.00! It was retailing for $79.99 at the local shop where I purchased it. I've since seen the cheaper, prompting me to purchase a second one.
I couldn't believe a spinning reel could have that many bearings, so I had to check it out for myself. I purchased one in early February 2001. The first thing I did was take it apart and count the bearing. The reel came with a parts list, but I had to see for myself. They were all in there!
I couldn't wait to try it out. I didn't have to wait long, the weather got nice enough a few weeks later to give it a field test. I matched it up to a 6' medium action IM7 graphite rod that I had been using for small and medium size baits. I was very impressed with the smooth casting performance. The titanium coated spool lip and bail is suppose to help the line come off and spools on easier. Based on how smooth it operated, I'd say it does. The instant anti-reverse is instant. No play at all. The retrieve was nice and smooth and the reel had no wobble what so ever during retrieve. I wasn't able to test the drag on this outing. Although I did catch two fish, neither were of any size to give the drag a good test for smoothness.
This is a great reel at a dynamite price that should hold up for a very long time. It's definately a must have.
Oh yea, the reel also comes with a "reel" nice storage bag. But as nice as this reel is, I doubt it will see much storage!
